چکیده

Physical model tests with the scale of 1:36 are carried out in the Near-Shore Wave Basin (NSWB) at Tainan Hydraulics Laboratory (THL) with the jacket-type offshore wind turbine foundation (jacket-type foundation) and the combination of hard or soft scour protection in the test area. Scouring around the jacket-type foundation exposed to wave and current was conducted in the NSWB with a mobile bed experiment. Two locations (a water depth of 12 m and 16 m) of the foundations are separately simulated in this study. Based on the analysis from the former NSWB experimental results, one traditional hard scour protection usually used in Taiwan with four layers around the foundation is proposed for the mitigation of scouring. From the experimental results, a four-layer scour protection is tested and found to be effective in preventing scouring around the jacket-type foundation. Besides the hard scour protection countermeasure, the scour protection effect of an integrated offshore wind turbine and cage net aquaculture facility as a soft countermeasure for scour protection of the jacket-type foundation is further evaluated in this study. OPEN ACCESS J. Mar. Sci. Eng. 2014, 2 552 Meanwhile, a detailed analysis for stakeholders’ opinions on the integration of offshore wind farms and coastal aquaculture is also considered to obtain important experience and knowledge; and furthermore, to understand the real demand for adjusting the feasibility of this soft countermeasure.

OPTIMAL DESIGN OF JACKET SUPPORTING STRUCTURES FOR OFFSHORE WIND TURBINES USING ENHANCED COLLIDING BODIES OPTIMIZATION ALGORITHM

Structural optimization of offshore wind turbine structures has become an important issue in the past years due to the noticeable developments in offshore wind industry. However, considering the offshore wind turbines’ size and environment, this task is outstandingly difficult. To overcome this barrier, in this paper, a metaheuristic algorithm called Enhanced Colliding Bodies Optimization...

An Investigation into the Effect of Scour on the Loading and Deformation Responses of Monopile Foundations

Severe foundation scour may occur around monopile foundations of offshore wind turbines due to currents and waves. The so-called p-y curves method is suggested in the existing design recommendations to determine the behavior of monopiles unprotected against scour and the reduction of effective soil stress is accounted for by the extreme scour depth. This conservative design approach does not co...

Dynamic Analysis of Offshore Wind Turbine Towers with Fixed Monopile Platform Using the Transfer Matrix Method

In this paper, an analytical method for vibrations analysis of offshore wind turbine towers with fixed monopile platform is presented. For this purpose, various and the most general models including CS, DS and AF models are used for modeling of wind turbine foundation and axial force is modeled as a variable force as well. The required equations for determination of wind turbine tower response ...

Effect of Pile Scouring on the Structural Behavior of a Fixed Jacket Platform with Consideration of Non-linear Pile Seabed Interaction

In offshore structures, most of failures are caused by the lack of sufficient piles strength. Scour phenomena affects the load transition and the pile strength. The necessity of the consideration of scouring phenomena amplifies when the scour depth becomes remarkable, which can endanger the jacket stability. In this paper, a new method is used to consider the pile scouring using nonlinear pusho...

Dynamic Soil-Structure Interaction issues in designing offshore wind turbines

 Choosing appropriate foundations for supporting offshore wind turbines is one of the uncertainties in the future rounds of offshore wind power development. Offshore wind turbines are dynamically sensitive structures as the global natural frequency of the whole system is very close to the forcing frequencies (due to the environmental loads and the associated frequencies due to the rotor). This...
